SUBJECTS IN THE FIELD OF BIOTECHNOLOGY

Hello everyone.
Today's blog will be as to what to expect in the field of Biotechnology.
I'm from a biotechnology background so will start elaborating about it right from the ground level so that school students can understand and choose their stream wisely.

So first of all let's understand what the term BIOTECHNOLOGY actually means.

BIOTECHNOLOGY IS THE USE OF LIVING ORGANISMS IN ORDER TO PRODUCE A PRODUCT THAT IS COMMERCIALLY VIABLE.
Eg:- The curd that we eat in our home is actually made by a bacteria using milk as the substrate. This is the simplest definition I could give to make a school student understand.
So do you know even medicines are prepared by using the principles of Biotechnology. Doesn't that sound interesting?

So blog related to Biotechnology will span over for a period of over 3-4 days so that I can share maximum knowledge with all.

Today's blog will be about the subjects that you study in Biotechnology.

So following are the list of the subjects:-
  • MICROBIOLOGY
  • BIOCHEMISTRY
  • ANIMAL PHYSIOLOGY
  • PLANT PHYSIOLOGY
  • CELL BIOLOGY
  • IMMUNOLOGY
  • MOLECULAR BIOLOGY
  • GENETIC ENGINEERING
  • ANIMAL AND MEDICAL BIOTECHNOLOGY
  • BIOINFORMATICS AND SYSTEMS BIOLOGY
  • BIOPROCESS ENGINEERING
  • GENOMICS AND PROTEOMICS
  • PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY
  • FOOD BIOTECHNOLOGY
  • PHARMACEUTICAL BIOTECHNOLOGY
  • NANO BIOTECHNOLOGY
  • BIOSEPERATION
  • INDUSTRIAL MICROBIOLOGY
  • BIOSTATISTICS
  • METABOLIC PATHWAYS
  • METABOLOMICS
  • CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
  • ELECTRICAL AND ELCTRONICS ENGINEERING
  • BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
  • INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS(IPR) & BIOETHICS
  • BIOMECHANICS
  • BIOPHYSICS
  • ENZYME TECHNOLOGY
  • MOLECULAR BASIS OF DISEASE
  • SCIENTIFIC WRITING
  • ENVIRONMENTAL BIOTECHNOLOGY

NOTE:- Subjects differ with respect to the type of course you are opting for(eg-whether you are going for a BSc degree or a B Tech degree or MSc degree or MTech degree)

See Biotechnology is more about working/studying on the cellular level than on the tissue or organ system level.

There's a sharp difference between
MEDICINE and BIOTECHNOLOGY

MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS DEAL WITH ACTUAL PATIENTS
whereas
BIOTECHNOLOGISTS DEAL WITH HOW THOSE SAME PATIENTS' BODY WORKS AT THE GRASS ROOT LEVEL.
